Responsibilities:

• Produce HTML emails that are eye-catching, creative, and produce high conversion rates; requires the ability to analyze and learn from the effectiveness of previous campaigns
• Design creative graphics for the SolarWinds lead generation programs that are distinctive, compelling, and speak to our target audience
• Bring deep knowledge of design and usability principles to improve user engagement and conversion for all online marketing initiatives
• Present visual comps to cross-functional teams in support of programs projects and make modifications based on collaborative feedback
• Contribute out-of-the-box ideas and innovative concepts to help meet aggressive growth targets for lead generation and corporate awareness
• Execute quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking is an absolute must
• Collaborate successfully with web development, graphic designers, copywriters, product marketing, product management, and marketing programs teams
• Perform project management to drive multiple projects to completion on schedule

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional experience as a designer
• Electronic portfolio of work that reflects your abilities and illustrates your skills in the functional design areas outlined in this job description
• HTML expert, with the ability to code HTML emails
• Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Illustrator
• Experience designing for different media – including but not limited to landing pages, banner ads and emails
• Thorough understanding of email standards and designing for multiple email clients
• Highly creative thinker who can collaborate with peers and copywriters on creating great graphics and headlines that together leave a lasting impression
• A “no project too big or small” attitude
• Experience working in a fast-paced start-up/high-growth environment where every individual makes a difference
• Detail-oriented, with excellent project management skills and the ability to successfully multi-task and manage several initiatives at one time
• An eye for pixel-perfection in all things design related 
• Energetic team player, who brings creativity to the table, but thrives in a collaborative environment where many people contribute to the overall success of projects 
• Ability to incorporate constructive criticism into finished products, as well as to take high-level direction
• Established track record of consistent delivery and meeting or exceeding deadlines

Please accept this letter as application for the Web & Email Designer position available with Solarwinds.   The attached resume outlines my strong hybrid skillset, which includes Web/Interaction Design, UI Development, Project Management, and Marketing.  This blend of experience allows me a unique capability to understand and address most issues that are inherent to the creation of new products.  Samples of the UIs I've created may be viewed at www.bartlandry.com.

You will notice that my most recent permanent job in the internet/technology industry ended in 2008.  Beginning August 2011, I am doing a short-term contract with Frog Design doing Interaction Design on Messaging. (emails, in-site notifications, etc)  Between these 2 jobs, I took an extended sabbatical to explore personal goals:
* assistance to those suffering from chronic pain
* in-depth study of various sciences, including physics, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology

At the time I left HomeAway, it seemed an ideal time (perhaps the only I would ever experience) to focus energy on the pursuit of a humanistic volunteer goal, as well as study of sciences that had always fascinated me.  The acquisition of such a deep understanding of the laws of nature has sharpened my mind, and created unprecedented depth in my approach to the dynamic intermingling of human psychology, interaction design, and user interfaces.  This sabbatical allows me to combine a fresh approach - and more divergent thinking - with my extensive job experience.

Some industry professionals prefer to hire people just out of college, so that they are not “set in their ways”, and are more malleable to the organization’s needs.  Others prefer to hire people with extensive job experience, for the resulting capabilities & depth of knowledge.  At this time, I can offer the best of both worlds.  Thank you for your time and consideration.  I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss how I can serve to benefit your needs!
